The Quest for Fire

"To those who love dragons, this is your kind of story."

The Quest for Fire

Chapter 1: Torch

Hi. I'm Torch. I'm a dragon that has a problem with fire. Well, really, a BIG problem with fire! All of my family members have the skill to breath fire.

So do the other dragons I know too. The other dragons are laughing at me right now just because I can't breath fire. It's not fair.

"Hey Torch, what happened to your fire? Burn out?" asked one of the dragons.

Then they all laughed. Joke of the day I'm guessing.

Oh, and that dragon who made the joke, his name is Firetail. He's the dragon who damages me the most.

There is also Wings, Fireburning, Burn, and Destroyer. They all laugh at me.

Chapter 2: Help

As I was flying home, I saw an old dragon right in front of me, just inches from my face. I wonder who he is.

"Are you that dragon who can't breath fire?" asked the dragon.

"Yes" I answered back in a tired tone.

Then he laughed and laughed on the ground, not even caring that he was on the ground, laughing, and that dragons could be watching him.

"But wait!" he called to me.

But I didn't stop flying. He was just another of those jokers who don't care what they're doing. So that was it. I''m going back home.

Then the dragon was in my space again. I was annoyed by his game that I was playing in. Even if I didn't want to, I still was in his game because of him.

"I'm sorry. My name is The Joke Dragon, and my name is just like my character. I'm sorry that I'm bothering you, but I have something important to tell you" said the dragon.

"If you want to breath fire, find Fire. He's the master" told The Joke Dragon.

"Where do I find him?" I asked interested.

"I think in the Old Dark Cave. There are many dangers to go though to get to the place. It will be dangerous. Good luck and that is all I have to say" said the dragon.

Then he left.

Chapter 3: The Quest For Fire

So I went on the journey, with some food and drink and other survival things that my parents gave me. They agreed on to give me all of this for the trip.

My parents and the rest of the family know I'm going. I will miss them, but that's the truth in quests; you always miss somebody in the beginning. That's how it works.

But this isn't just any quest; it's the Quest for Fire, to find this master dragon named Fire and also to find the fire in me. I know it's there inside of me. I know it.

And that's what I'm going to find in this quest. What I need most. Fire.

Chapter 4: Dragon Mountain

I'm going into the mountain for a reason; there is an amulet that I think is the key to next step to get to Fire. And I do know some things about  Dragon Mountain.

The mountain was named that because dragons would complete for the amulet in different tribes and whoever got the famed amulet was awarded with dragons to populate the tribe.

The tribe that won also got to choose who and how many dragons they wanted. At first, one tribe called the "The Colony of Dragons" won two times. Then more and more and more.

All of the tribes were going depopulated. Tribes that once were filled with laughter and joy were now empty and sad.

Then one dragon stopped the game from continuing. All of the dragons that belonged to the other tribes that lost the game were back in their original tribes. Only one tribe actually survived; the tribe I'm in.

Chapter 5: Going In

I'm in. The mountain is made of ice and fire, ice holding the mountain up because the element is stiff. Fire because it is a good kind of glue in the makings for dragons.

Of course, the dragons didn't make the mountain; that would be physically impossible. But science made the mountains and the trees; everything around us dragons.

The mountain was hollow. It appeared hollow to me, so lonely and sad, like a friend who disappeared in the shadows of the earth.

Every minute I was inside of the mountain, the mountain seemed less and less lonely. That was good. But I was here to finish the task of getting to Fire. Sometimes you have to concentrate on the important stuff.

Suddenly something appeared. It was a gigantic beast that had appeared out of nowhere.

Chapter 5: The Monster

It was a gigantic monster. Probably one time or another, I would find this monster. It is what the dragons in all of the tribes call "the mountain monster".

Yes, there are lots of monsters that live where all of the dragon tribes are because those places that the dragons are controlling the places of some monsters' birthing spots. The places where they live forever, but only for short times because the monsters' hunt. That takes 20 or 30 years.

And that's because the good hunting grounds are far, far away. It takes a long time to travel and then hunt for a very long time.

This monster in front of me is a monster that lives in the mountain. Not all monsters live where the dragons are. They also live in caves, holes, underground, and even in the water.

The reason I think this monster is going to kill me is because I am in his mountain. Not all monsters like visitors. I'm about to become his lunch.

As the monster ran after me, I ran away inside his home to find the amulet I so desperately need to find to continue this quest for Fire. After before I get eaten by the monster.

Chapter 6: Flying Away

I'm on the menu from the monster chasing me. This is not what I do everyday, getting chased by monsters and hanging out in mountains.

This monster might be fat, but he has good long legs and is very fast for a monster his size. Wow. Me on the other wing, I am fast when it comes to flying, but not as fast as the monster.

But size made up for that; I was very, very small in size of what a dragon really is. When the monster was right behind me, I would fly around in circles and that made it harder for the monster to eat me.

Then I saw something on the ground; it was the amulet! And it was there in the wrong time, when the monster was right behind me.

That's when I did something cool; I somersaulted three times in a row, confusing the monster for a short period of time, then I got the amulet in my claws in mid-air.

I saw a small hole. Small enough for me to go though, but not big enough for the monster.

And that's when he got up and chased me. I was flying for my life and then I was out of the mountain with the amulet in my claws.

Chapter 7: Another One

As I was resting in a cave, I saw someone. It was a dragon. That's something I haven't seen on this adventure yet. A dragon.

Just when I was going to greet the dragon, the dragon found me in the cave. We greeted each other and we agreed to share the cave, since it was much bigger than the both of us together. Lots of space.

It turns out that he was going on the adventure too for Fire. It's nice to have something going to the same place as you.

We talked for a little bit, then I asked him if he wanted to come together on find Fire. He agreed. His name was Fireless, and that my name was Torch.

I noticed that names were sometimes weird, like my name is Torch, but I can't breath fire. I told Fireless that when we find Fire and then he gives us fire, he could change his name.

Fireless thought that was a good idea. And on that account, we both went to sleep because we knew that the next day is going to be a long day.\

Chapter 8: Finding the Cave

The next morning, Fireless and I went to find where this next clue would be. Fireless something about the next clue being in a cave. So that's easy, look for a cave.

But it turns out that there aren't many caves in the area that we were in. It was an open space, meaning there was nothing there but land.

Suddenly, we found a cave! We went inside and sure it was there; a hole in the shape of the amulet. The next clue was here.

Chapter 9: Amulet for the Riddle

The cave was dark. But that's how every cave is. Then a light appeared. An old figure showed. She was not a dragon, but not a human or a dwarf. Fireless and I didn't know what to think of what the creature was.

"The amulet" asked the old figure.

Then Fireless and I gave her the amulets that we fought for so hard. I wonder how Fireless got another amulet. Maybe he found it somewhere else.

Suddenly a giant slab of marble showed. It said "I am a dragon. I used to be queen. But then I fell on a rainy day, not to be seen to this day. Who am I?"

"May I go first?" asked Fireless.

"Go ahead" said the old creature.

"It's Queen Horntail. She was queen until she died on a cliff on a rainy day . She is not seen since that day" said Fireless.

"You may pass"

Then a tunnel appeared while the marble was lifted away.

Chapter 10: My Riddle

Then I was alone in the cave except the riddle for me and the old creature. Fireless was in the long tunnel waiting for me.

The marble slab's story was this:

"I am a building. Very, very tall, I am one symbol of the dragons'. Who I am?"

"The Tower of Dragons" I answered.

"It was built as a symbol to all dragons' and it was one of the tallest building built by dragons' in the world."

"You may pass" said the old creature.

Then the tunnel appeared once more. Now for the next clue.

Chapter 11: Splitting Apart

I flew though the tunnel. It was dark and long, but I didn't mind. I was thinking where the next clue to finding Fire might be.

Then the end the tunnel was there. I saw Fireless who was happy as can be. I greeted him and we talked about what the marble slabs read and what the riddles meant.

"Mine was about Queen Horntail and the cliff" said Fireless.

"So we go to the cliff first" I said.

"What was your answer?" asked Fireless.

"It was about going to the Tower of Dragons" I answered.

"I'm sorry I have to say this, but I think that each marble slab with the riddle said that to get the next clue. I go to the cliff, you to the Tower of Dragons" said Fireless sadly.

"But we can still be friends, right?" I asked. I know it was hard for Fireless and I to split up alone.

"Yes, we can" answered Fireless.

Chapter 12: Carrying On

It was hard to carry on, but I did it; I continued back to the quest and went to find the next clue, which is at the Tower of Dragons.

Days and days went by and I didn't find the Tower of Dragons. I knew it was a long way to get the tower, but I didn't know it would be this long. So I continued the search.

I slept in caves and hunted my food. That's because I ran out of food, so I had to hunt for food to survive out in the cold, dark and misty land.

But my survival and my work did work. I had found the Tower of Dragons! It was so cool, with nice architecture columns and painting, with nice floors and seats. There was even a fountain with cool ice water.

I had found the Tower of Dragons at last!

Chapter 13: Inside the Tower of Dragons

Inside the Tower of Dragons was a treat; the tower had so many floors, I couldn't count! But somehow, the people in charge could.

There were two guards at the floor of each building, for protection of the tower because this tower was home to all of superior leaders of the dragon kingdoms. This was truly an important place.

I asked the guards where the superior leaders are, but they asked if I had an appointment with the superior leaders. I said no.

But that is when I told them that I was on the quest for Fire. I explained about my journey and the dangers I've faced. Then they let me in.

The guards told me to go to the top floor. That's where the superior dragons are. There was a huge elevator and then I pressed the button for floor number 448.

Chapter 14: Meeting the Superior Dragons

Finally the elevator let out a little ding and then the elevator doors opened and then I saw a room full of the most important dragons in the world. I was amazed for a few moments, but then amazement wore off.

"Hello" greeted one of the dragons.

"Hello" I greeted back.

"My name is Firewing, commander of the dragon armed forces. What is your name and why are you present?" asked Firewing.

They all handsome and young and very radiant. They was one dragon who was older than the rest,  judging by his old skin and his face. He looked wiser than all of them.

"My name is Torch. I cannot breath fire, so I was told to find Fire, who is the master of fire. I am trying to get to him. Do you know where he is?" I asked the superior dragons.

"Yes" answered the older dragon. "Pardon my manners, I forgot to say who I am"

"I am Forest. You will find Fire in the Old Man Mountain. Do not underestimate Fire. He is dangerous if he makes you his enemy. Good luck, Torch" said Forest.

"Bye, everyone. Thank you for meeting me and taking your time well" I said.

"Goodbye!" said all the superior dragons.

Chapter 15: Going to the Old Man Mountain

After the meeting with the superior dragons, I went to the elevator and pressed the button for the ground level. I was waiting a long time, that's what it felt to me because I was so eager to go to the Old Man Mountain where Fire was awaiting me. I was prepared.

Then a crisp little ding sounded and the elevator doors opened once more. Then I flew high in the sky to see the view of the dragon city in the kingdom of Fireland.

But I descended down to the ground and flew north, where the Old Man Mountain is. I was excited to finally find Fire, the master of fire and to breath fire, what all dragons dream to do and what makes us dragons survive; the answer will always, always be fire.

Chapter 16: Fireless's Greed

I am at the cliff, where Queen Horntail the VI died on a rainy day, the day being May 17th, which is today. It has been 134 years since she died. Nobody why and what had the Queen die on this day.

Maybe she was crazy, out of her mind, or it was the other way; a dragon or a creature of bad luck pushed her or made her go to her death. Nobody knows.

At the cliff, I at first, didn't know what to do. Maybe I was to look around, see if the clue was around somewhere. But then a crazy idea popped in my head; I could jump off the cliff.

So I did. But I didn't die. It was a trick to make dragons believe that the Queen was dead. And she wasn't; she was alive. The Queen was alive!

I greeted her and she greeted me. She was a little bit older, close to the age of death, but she was still alive! That is because she found a place with food and water; paradise to a dragon.

And that is when I had an idea. I had found the Queen and that is good. That must mean that I am better than Torch. I must destroy him and the whole world will make me their leader. And I will return the Queen and be a hero and the king of the dragon world.\

Chapter 17: The Travel

The travel to the Old Man Mountain was going to be boring and exhausting. I already knew that from the start.

But it was a good thing I packed lots of food and water for the journey. The water I got was from the fountain in the middle of the dragon city. I got lots.

So I left the city to find the Old Man Mountain. I got a map and a compass from Forest. And so I thanked him and wished good luck for him in the future.

I also got a flask of this potion I found just lying on the cobblestone ground. It wasn't opened and the flask was contained full of potion. I took it for the journey.

And so I ventured to find Fire in the mountain.

It was a long, long path. I wanted to rest for the day, but I urged on. I knew that if I stopped the journey for the day so short, I would soon run out of supplies.

The potion was very helpful; the creature who made the potion made it to make dragons go farther and farther to their journey. It was a good find.

Soon I stopped for the day and made dinner and slept away, for I knew that the journey to find Fire in the Old Man Mountain tomorrow was going to be a long tiring day.

Chapter 18: The Old Man Mountain

After three days of searching, I had found the Old Man Mountain! And it was worth the trouble too! The mountain was tall, round, and was very, very old.

Already the stone and rock that hold the mountain like pillars are cracking. So anytime the pillars collapse, everybody goes down with the mountain.

I went exploring in the mountain, trying to find Fire, the master and creator of fire. He was the one to find. I needed the fire, for a dragon's survival is depended on fire.

There were many small and big gaps in the mountain. I was very small for a dragon, so I had no problem going inside the mountain.

Suddenly I saw light; fire! I must have found the right way to go to find Fire! This was great. In a few minutes, I will find Fire and...

Then I fell into a door in the ground. I would have fell to my death if my wings hadn't saved me. I am most thankful for my wings, even if they are small and weak.

Then someone appeared. It was Fire!

Chapter 19: Fire

"Hello" said Fire. "What is your name?" he asked.

"Torch" I answered.

"Ah, good. Welcome to my mountain. It is my home".

"I came here on this dangerous journey for fire. I need as all dragons would" I said to Fire.

"I know. But why think that I just give fire, the most important weapon and tool of all time, to some dragon who came here?" he asked.

I thought for a moment, but nothing came to my head.

"I give to those who need it badly, to fight an enemy, to defend a friend. Not to someone who needs it just because everybody else has it" explained Fire.

"But I need it for a tool, for my survival. I will probably need it for fighting someday" I said.

"Ah, but you can't fight. You can only fly. But I don't think that you need wings" said Fire.

Then suddenly my wings disappeared.

"Give me back my wings!" I shouted at Fire.

"Ah, but you need to prove it that you can fight. And defend. Not flying away from the enemy. If you win, I will give you the wings and the power to breath fire" said Fire.

"But if I win, you will have no wings and no way to breath fire" said Fire. "Is it a deal?" asked Fire.

"Yes" I said.

Then we shook hands.

Chapter 20: Fighting Fire

Well, I know that I'm not a good fighter, but I didn't know that I was that bad. Maybe that was because I didn't have wings at the moment, but I did have a dashing ability.

Now it's harder to fight; since I don't have fire and I don't have wings or anything very good. But that was the point; to make the fight unfair to prove what I am.

But I did notice something with Fire; he attacks me, but he didn't defend himself. That's his problem and that's his weakness and my bonus.

So I tried. The first attempt wasn't very good; he noticed his weakness and he stitched it up. But I began to notice more changes.

Like the way he is fighting now; before, his fighting was superb. Now it's weak and not accurate. So then I found one weakness, one that he cannot fix no matter the trouble.

It was that when I challenge him more and more and more because of that one weakness he had, that messed him up. That was it.

Then I struck and got him. Then Fire, the master and lord of fire, surrendered.

Chapter 21: Fire and Wings: Two Great Powers

I waited. And waited. And waited. Then suddenly my wings appeared. They magically fitted on my back, where they were meant to be.

And then, I felt for the first time in my life, fire; the tool and power that all dragons need for a tool, to protect one or himself and herself. And to survive and fight.

"Go back to your home" said Fire. "You will find Fireless there. Stop him because Fireless is triggering a war, turning dragons to kill you and the Superior Dragons. Anybody who stands in the way on the dragons, will be killed" said Fire, telling me the instructions.

"Go and save the Superior Dragons and others. And stop the war and go for peace. If you accomplish the task... Well, that I can't tell you yet. Good luck and good bye" said Fire.

Then I flew away, ready for the task, ready for another adventure.
